Jennifer Hartswick & Brendan Bayliss Perform ‘A One Night Affair’ Livestream Concert
Jennifer Hartswick and Brendan Bayliss conducted their A One Night Affair livestream concert on Friday night. The Umphrey’s McGee guitarist and Trey Anastasio Band trumpeter and vocalist delivered a nearly all covers set inducing songs from Phish, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Prince and more.
The set got underway with the Eric Clapton-penned Derek And The Dominoes number “Bell Bottom Blues” before Hartswick led the way on the Dolly Parton classic, “Jolene.” Phish’s “Lifeboy” came next ahead of Bob Dylan’s “Gotta Serve Somebody.” The Stones’ “Wild Horses” and Bill Withers’ “Lovely Day” followed before Brendan headed over to the piano for The Band’s “It Makes No Difference.” Bayliss would stay on the keys for “Holding Back The Years” from the UK group Simply Red which saw Hartsiwck laying down some more trumpet. The trumpet/piano combo continued for Prince’s “How Come You Don’t Call Me Anymore.”
Next up, Paul Simon’s “Under African Skies” ahead of BB and JHa performing the only non-cover (sort of) of the evening with UM’s “Bullhead City” — a song Hartswick has sung with Umphrey’s before — which saw Brendan singing his and fellow UM guitarist Jake Cinninger’s parts. Brendan’s wife Annie Bayliss then joined in on the fun to sing on Macy Gray’s “I Try.” The duo then went it alone for the John Prine classic “Angel From Montgomery” before Hartsiwck sang lead on the Amy Winehouse/Mark Ronson popularized “Valerie.” The duo would return to UK bands for the final songs of the evening with Blind Faith’s “Can’t Find My Way Home” and The Beatles’ “Don’t Let Me Down” to bring A One Night Affair to a close.
