Jeff Tweedy Shares New Song Featuring Carl Sandburg Poem

Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy is among the cast of Chicago-based musicians tapped to help celebrate the 100th anniversary of the release of late legendary laureate Carl Sandburg’s Chicago Poems book. New York-based musician David Nagler chose 16 entries from Sandburg’s collection and had fellow artists put them to music, including Tweedy’s adaptation of “Theme In Yellow.”

Chicago performers Robbie Fulks, Jon Langford, Sally Timms, Kelly Hogan, Daniel Knox and Nora O’Connor also contributed to the project that will be released as an album co-produced by Max Avery Lichtenstein and co-arranged by The War On Drugs’ Jon Natchez. David Nagler & Friends: Carl Sandburg’s Chicago Poems will be issued via Big Sleep Records on October 14. Listen to Tweedy’s recording of “Theme In Yellow” which Vulture premiered below:

Jeff Tweedy is among the performers whose set will be broadcast live from this weekend’s Pickathon festival in Happy Valley, Oregon. Tune in at 8:50 p.m on Saturday, August 6 to catch his solo set.
