The Allman Betts Band brought The Allman Betts Family Revival Tour to The Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on Friday night. The guest-filled evening featured several special collaborations, including guitarist Jason Isbell sitting in on a few The Allman Brothers Band classics.

The Allman Betts Band, led by Devon Allman (son of ABB co-founder the late Gregg Allman) and Duane Betts (son of ABB co-founder Dickey Betts), have been joined by many guests at various stops on The Allman Betts Family Revival Tour. The Ryman performance saw previous tour collaborator, mandolinist Sierra Hull, once again get in on the action. Harmonica player/guitarist G. Love was also brought out on Friday night.

Additional participants in Friday’s concert were tour regulars, vocalist/harmonica player Jimmy Hall of Wet Willie, multi-instrumentalist Jackie Greene, bassist Tal Wilkenfeld, blues guitarist Ally Venable, North Mississippi Allstars guitarist Luther Dickinson and drummer Cody Dickinson, Belgian blues guitarist Ghalia Volt, and blues guitarist Larry McCray. Tesla guitarist Frank Hannon and P-Funk keyboardist Peter Keys were also among the guests at The Ryman.

Isbell’s first appearance came at the end of the first set when he added electric guitar to The Allman Brothers staple “Dreams.” Isbell returned to The Ryman stage for the final two songs of the second set, accompanied by Luther Dickinson and Jimmy Hall, for another Allmans’ classic, “Whipping Post.” Isbell then sang lead on The Allmans’ biggest hit song, “Ramblin' Man,” which drew the second set to a close.

The encore began with Sierra Hull adding mandolin to The Allman Betts Band’s “Magnolia Road” and she stuck around for the subsequent offering of The Allman Brothers Band’s “End of the Line.” The finale saw the return of the night’s prior guests for a collaborative “Midnight Rider” closer.
