Yo-Yo Ma welcomed James Taylor during a concert the renowned cellist delivered on Sunday at Tanglewood in the Berkshire region of Massachusetts where Taylor has been a longtime resident. Taylor joined Yo-Yo Ma during his encore to perform James’ 1970 classic “Sweet Baby James,” which references the Berkshires.
Yo-Yo Ma’s concert featured all six of Bach’s cello suites, for which he received a standing ovation. The cellist then asked the audience if they’d like to hear from a local singer-songwriter. Taylor emerged and told the crowd he would play the only “suite” he’d ever written: “Sweet Baby James.”
