James Casey Has ‘A Little Something For Everyone’ To Help Fight Cancer

Trey Anastasio Band saxophonist James Casey announced a holiday album entitled A Little Something For Everyone due out digitally via 12/23 Records on December 5. The four-song collection marks Casey’s solo recording debut with proceeds from the release going towards the Colorectal Cancer Alliance and Eastern Virginia Medical School’s HOPES Clinic to finance free colon cancer screenings for the uninsured.

James Casey was diagnosed with colon cancer last year bringing extra significance to the project for him. “When I was approached with the opportunity to record, I jumped at the chance,” Casey explained. “Although we had a lot of setbacks while recording due to chemotherapy, being able to make a fun, holiday record with my friends to help people get access to screening for something that I am currently battling was a no-brainer. The fact that it’s the first music released under my own name is definitely an added bonus!”

Casey both produced and arranged A Little Something For Everyone, which was recorded in Greenpoint, Brooklyn at Creamery Studio. The Brooklyn resident enlisted a number of acclaimed musicians to contribute to the project including Randy Runyon (guitar), Ian Faquini (guitar), Matt Owens (trumpet), Steve Jenkins (bass), Corey Bernhard (keys) and Derrick White (horns).

The saxophonist and his collaborators recorded takes on holiday classics “Christmas Time Is Here” and “Joy To The World” for A Little Something For Everyone as well as original “Christmafunk” and gospel hymn “His Eye Is On The Sparrow.” Casey created the collection in partnership with the cancer research nonprofit organization the Nancy Langhorne Foundation. “Christmafunk” will be released on November 14 with additional singles following each week.

A limited run of 300 copies of the 7″ EP haven been pressed on blue vinyl. Preorders will be available through 12/23 Records on November 7 with vinyl expected to ship in mid-December. James Casey has another solo EP, Kauai, set for release in early 2023.
