This year’s Isle Of Wight Festival will pay special tribute to Jimi Hendrix whose performance at the festival 45 years ago famously brought over 500,000 people to the island of only 200,000 residents. The festival’s main stage area will be renamed the Electric Church and fans can purchase a special Jimi Hendrix mask -with proceeds going to the festival’s chosen charity WellChild -in an attempt to break the world record for the most people donning the same mask at one time.

“Jimi’s impact on the island and to popular music cannot be underestimated,” said festival organizer John Giddings. “His inspiration lives on today and is present each year in the artists performing this year. We wanted to celebrate the 45th anniversary by doing something fun with everyone at the festival this year. By buying a Jimi mask people can not only take part in this special celebration but also help raise money for our partner charity WellChild.”
The Isle of Wight Festival takes place this weekend, June 11 -14, and features headliners Fleetwood Mac, The Black Keys, Blur and The Prodigy. The record breaking attempt will occur at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 13 in newly named Electric Church main stage area.
In other Hendrix news, cannabis infused product manufacturer Nutritional High announced a partnership with the estate of Jimi Hendrix to manufacture and distribute various marijuana and hemp-based edible products using the song titles and bearing the likeness of the late legendary guitarist.A variety of products under the “Edibles Experience” banner are in development including the “Purple Haze” line of THC-based products and the “Stone Free” line of CBD-based, non-psychoactive medicinal products.
“Jimi Hendrix is one of the most legendary rock guitarists of all time and this partnership should create instant brand recognition for our edible marijuana products by Jimi’s fans across North America,” said David Posner, CEO of Nutritional High. “Entering into brand partnerships with the world’s foremost marijuana-related artists is a core component of our strategy, and we are honored to become part of Jimi’s legacy.”
