Watch Iggy Pop, Flea & Andrew Watt Talk Shop On ‘The Making Of Every Loser’ & More

Iggy Pop, Flea and Andrew Watt appeared in a short documentary titled The Making Of Every Loser: Flea Interviews Iggy Pop. The video traces Iggy’s Andrew Watt-produced 2023 album, Every Loser, and more.

The short doc opened with Iggy, Flea and Watt listening to playbacks from Every Loser. The clip then turned to the Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist interviewing the Godfather of Punk. Iggy gave a little bit of his background musical and otherwise.

“I was from a trailer park in Ypsilanti Township [Michigan]…I didn’t know what to do,” Iggy said. “Very serious…and a little nerdy. Didn’t wanna be. The first song I ever wrote, before The Iguanas, I called it ‘Why Do You Hate Me’…I suspected I could write so I tried to goad these brothers into starting a band with me.”

Flea also brought up Iggy’s time in his highly influential band The Stooges.

“We knew we were different,” Iggy recalled. “We got signed because the MC5 thought we were interesting and we were opening for them a lot. This guy Danny Fields who was sent out from New York to check [MC5] out, saw us and recommended somebody sign us.”

Additionally, Iggy and Flea discussed the former’s solo career as well as hooking up with Andrew Watt leading to Iggy’s 19th solo album, Every Loser. Elsewhere in the video is more playback footage and banter along with Watt sharing his thoughts on working with the legendary rocker.
