Holly Bowling Joins Greensky Bluegrass In Denver
By Nate Todd Dec 8, 2019 • 12:08 pm PST
Greensky Bluegrass wrapped up their two-night run at Denver’s Mission Ballroom on Saturday night. Pianist Holly Bowling, of opening band Ghost Light, would join the bluegrass quintet for a number of songs to close out the second set including a Grateful Dead favorite.
Greensky kicked off the first set with the Jimmy Martin song “Hit Parade Of Love” followed by two tunes from the band’s 2011 album Handguns in the title track and “Don’t Lie.” The set would also see the band covering The Wood Brothers’ “Luckiest Man.” GSBG closed out the first frame with “Run or Die” from the group’s 2016 album Shouted, Written Down & Quoted.
The second set got underway with “Do Harm” from the band’s 2019 record All For Money. After a segment of “Jaywalking” and “Courage For The Road,” Greensky would welcome Bowling on “Fixin’ To Ruin.” Holly would stay on for “Windshield,” “What you Need” — which also included a sit-in from percussionist and longtime Greesnky friend Guido Batista — as well as the Grateful Dead’s “Cassidy” and “Leap Year” to close out the set. GSBG retook the stage for an encore of “Wings For Wheels” and “Demons” to cap off the evening.
