All eyes were focused on the skies yesterday as a rare total solar eclipse made its way through a swath of the United States. Jimmy Fallon celebrated the eclipse by enlisting Monday’s Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon musical guests Heart to cover Bonnie Tyler’s 1983 hit “Total Eclipse of the Heart.”
“We have a special show tonight, Heart is out musical guest and today is, obviously, the solar eclipse. So we thought we have to do what we have to do, we have to sing ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart,’” Fallon explained at the top of the show.

The talk show host belted out “Total Eclipse of the Heart” on the roof of 30 Rock with Heart’s Nancy Wilson and Ann Wilson as well as a full backing band. Fallon and Heart’s performance was filmed as the eclipse hit near totality in New York City.
Jimmy Fallon was sporting safety glasses to view the eclipse. He took one of the song’s lyrics literally when he removed his glasses to display glowing “bright eyes.”
Heart performed their iconic 1977 single “Barracuda” indoors later in the episode. Sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson will lead Heart on the Royal Flush Tour starting on April 20 in Greenville, South Carolina. The band’s first extended excursion in five years runs through the fall.
