The Who frontman Roger Daltrey celebrates his 72nd birthday today. The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame lead singer is one of the most recognizable and iconic voices in the history of the genre. In addition to music and film acting, Daltrey has also long been a supporter of many charities, including Teen Cancer America for which he helped co-found and recently recorded a single. Another charitable experience Daltrey participated in was The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert For Aids Awareness held on April 20, 1992 at Wembley Stadium in London.

Daltrey was among an all-star lineup of performers joining Queen members guitarist Brian May, drummer Roger Taylor and bassist John Deacon that also included Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant, David Bowie, Elton John, Metallica’s James Hetfield, Annie Lennox, Guns N’ Roses’ Slash and Axl Rose and others. While celebrating the life of Queen lead singer Freddie Mercury who died from AIDS complications in November 1991, the concert also marked the launch of The Mercury Phoenix Trust charity established by the remaining members of Queen to help fight AIDS.

Below is video footage of Daltrey fronting Queen on the latter’s “I Want It All” featuring Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi from the concert in 1992, watch:

The Who were forced last year to reschedule a number of shows last year due to Daltrey suffering from viral Meningitis. Daltrey and bandmate Pete Townshend re-launched the North American leg of their The Who Hits 50! Tour last Saturday, and they will perform on this Friday’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
