Happy Birthday Phil Lesh: Phil & Trey At Vegoose 2006
By Andy Kahn Mar 15, 2017 • 6:39 am PDT
Grateful Dead founding member Phil Lesh is 77 years young today. Bassist, vocalist, songwriter, restaurant owner, venue runner, grandpa, friend — Phil fills many roles these days and continues to shows no signs of slowing down. You can regularly catch him at his restaurant and concert space Terrapin Crossroads in Marin County and out at The Capitol Theatre and assorted venues with his various Phil & Friends lineups as well as leading The Terrapin Family Band.
To celebrate Phil’s birthday we’ve queued up video of the set billed Phil & Trey from the Vegoose Festival in Las Vegas on October 29, 2006. The pro-shot video captures Phil with guitarist Trey Anastasio, keyboardist John Medeski, guitarist Larry Campbell, vocalist Christina Durfee and drummer John Molo ripping through a two-hour long set that included Mike Gordon adding banjo to Phish’s “Get Back On The Train.” The group also performed takes on Ryan Adams’ “Let It Ride,” Anastasio’s “Sweet Dreams Melinda” and Bob Dylan’s “Like A Rolling Stone” amongst a set filled with Grateful Dead staples.
