Today Jim James celebrates his 37th birthday. The guitarist, vocalist and leader of My Morning Jacket already has a big year in store as he and the band will issue their seventh studio album, The Waterfall on May 4 and shortly after set out on a huge supporting world tour. In honor of the Louisville native’s 37th trip around the sun, we’ve culled together several clips from recent years of James alone with only an instrument and his sweet and serene voice.

Starting off, the first videos show James playing MMJ songs “Wonderful (The Way I Feel),” “Steam Engine,” “Master Plan,” “Tonight, I Want To Celebrate With You,” “What A Wonderful Man” and “Bermuda Highway.” Following those clips is footage of James performing tracks from his 2013 solo album, Regions of Light and Sound of God, including and “A New Life” and “State Of The Art (A.E.I.O.U.)” the latter of which is preceded by a cover of Willie Nelson’ “Funny How Time Slips Away.”
