Happy Birthday Elton John: BBC In Concert 1970

Today marks legendary performer Elton John‘s 69th birthday and the man born Reginald Kenneth Dwight is still going strong. Elton is one of the top-selling artists ever with more than 50 Top 40 hits to his credit as well as an unbelievable streak seven consecutive No. 1 US albums. John recently released his 32nd studio album, Wonderful Crazy Night, which was produced by T. Bone Burnett.

To celebrate, let’s look back at Elton John’s early days for a stirring performance. In 1970, Elton recorded a set for the BBC’s In Concert series that features impressive renditions of a handful of early classics. The video below finds John backed by his band, vocalists and a small orchestra for “Your Song,” “Border Song,” “Sixty Years On,” “Take Me To The Pilot,” “The Greatest Discovery,” “I Need You To Turn To” and “Burn Down The Mission.” Take a look:
