Halsey officially announced their next album will be entitled The Great Impersonator. The pop star shared the news via a trailer for the album in which they cosplay looks and icons from past eras.
“What if I debuted in the early 2000s? The ’90s? The ’80s? The ’70s?” the singer states as visuals from the studio and of Halsey representing previous time periods flash by. “Am I still Halsey every time? In every timeline, do I still get sick? Do I become a mom? Am I happy? Lonely? Have I done enough? Have I told the truth?”

While a release date and other information about the follow-up to 2021’s If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power have yet to be confirmed, Halsey recently shared singles “The End,” “Lucky” and “Lonely Is The Muse,” each of which are expected to appear on their forthcoming fifth studio album. “Lucky” interpolates Britney Spears’ 2000 hit of the same name within the chorus. An image on their website promoting the “confessional concept album” indicates the LP will arrive sometime in 2024.
Halsey revealed their health struggles in a June post on social media after “The End” was released. “In 2022, I was first diagnosed with Lupus SLE and then a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder. Both of which are currently being managed or in remission; and both of which I will likely have for the duration of my life,” Halsey wrote. “After a rocky start, I slowly got everything under control with the help of amazing doctors.”

Halsey portrays David Bowie, Britney Spears and others after leading with “I really thought this album would be the last one I ever made” in The Great Impersonator trailer. “If it all ended right now, is this a person you’d be proud to leave behind? Is it even you?” they conclude at the end of the clip.
On August 8, Halsey fit the live debut of “Lucky” into their set at Hungry’s Sziget Festival. Next up for Halsey is a performance at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas on September 21.
