Gregg Allman Performs On ‘The Inside Track With Graham Nash’ In 1990

Unfortunately, “serious health issues” forced Gregg Allman to cancel many upcoming performances, including his planned set with The String Cheese Incident tonight at the Peach Music Festival in Scranton, Pennsylvania. While it appears the health of the co-founding member of The Allman Brothers Band is thankfully improving, Allman will be sidelined until October 29 when he is slated to return at his Laid Back Festival at Lakewood Amphitheatre near Atlanta. Tonight, the Peach fest will host The Allman Brothers Family Incident featuring SCI with ABB members Butch Trucks, Jaimoe, Oteil Burbridge and Marc Quinones and members of Gregg’s current band including Bruce Katz and Scott Sharrard.

For this week’s Full Show Friday, the “show” is an episode of The Inside Track With Graham Nash featuring Gregg from 1990. The A&E series hosted by singer-songwriter Graham Nash featured Allman taking questions from Nash and audience members as well as performing a number of songs on acoustic guitar. That guitar, according one of the video’s comments, was described in Allman’s autobiography as “a guitar [that] Graham bought for David Crosby and is the nicest guitar he’s ever played … he also said that if he could go back and steal one thing in his life it would be that guitar.”

During a Q&A to start the show, musician Spencer Davis asks him about songwriting royalties, which leads to Gregg’s performance of the first song he ever wrote, “Melissa,” Gregg also tells a wild tale about shooting himself in the foot, literally, to avoid the military draft, ahead of a take on “Midnight Rider.”

Allman’s music videos serve as bumpers between commercial breaks and he talks about meeting President Jimmy Carter when prompted to describe the relationship by an audience member. The episode continues with Gregg talking about his time spent living in California with Jackson Browne and performing Browne’s “These Days” with Nash joining on harmonica. Former NFL wide receiver Willie Gault asks a question comparing athletes to musicians, which is followed by the show ending performance of “Come And Go Blues.” Watch the episode of The Inside Track With Graham Nash featuring Gregg Allman here:
