Today (Friday, August 30), Mercury/UMe released a deluxe, remastered edition of Gregg Allman’s 1973 solo debut, Laid Back, which kicks off with “Midnight Rider.” To go along with the record’s release, Gregg Allman’s YouTube channel has also shared an animated lyric video for the Allman-penned classic.
The “Midnight Rider” from Laid Back gives a different take on The Allman Brothers’ original 1970 Idlewild South rendition. Allman’s Laid Back “Midnight Rider” is fittingly more relaxed musically than the Allman Brothers’ earlier version. The 1973 “Midnight Rider” features horn, strings and a lazy slide guitar.
