Gregg Allman Discusses His Health Issues In New Interview
By Scott Bernstein Sep 22, 2016 • 12:56 pm PDT
In August legendary rocker Gregg Allman gave fans a scare when he canceled all dates through late October due to “serious health issues.” Thankfully Gregg is on the mend and will play a special set at the Red Rocks stop of his Laid Back Festival this Sunday, September 25. Allman revealed what ailed him during a recent interview with Westword.
“Right in the middle of [his Summer Tour] I got pneumonia,” Allman told Westword. “Yeah, that was a drag. I was almost to the end of a tour. I had to two more to go, and damn, it just set in. I had to postpone two of the gigs, but we’ll go back and make them up, for sure,” Gregg said. He missed his appearances at Floyd Fest and the Peach Music Festival as well as a run of dates with ZZ Top.
Apparently the health scare won’t keep him from continuing to expand the Laid Back Festival. Gregg told Westword he aims to add Tampa Bay and Miami to the list of five cities where the multi-band event was held this year and that “he’ll eventually get Seattle and Portland on board as well.” Westword notes Allman has been given a “clean bill of health” in advance of his set with Scott Sharrard at Red Rocks in Morrison, Colorado on Sunday.
