Following the release of their debut single “Hope We Get To Dance,” Greg Loiacono & Stingray are back with a second track. Drawing inspiration from 1970s Bay Area soul, “Come Back Home” arrived today via RPF Records/Royal Potato Family.
The Mother Hips co-founder Greg Loiacono and his new ace band — drummer Michael Urbano, percussionist/vocalist Vicki Randle, bassist/vocalist Kofy Brown, keyboardist Danny Eisenberg and guitarist Tom Ayres — captured “Come Back Home” at 2200 Studios (formerly The Plant) in Sausalito, California, a storied space where legends such as Stevie Wonder, Prince and Fleetwood Mac recorded.
Loiacono further detailed “Come Back Home.”
“The song has a throwback roller rink energy to it,” he said. “The lyrics on their own could almost be sentimental, but to stick with that analogy, the pulsating dance groove gives it a skate your sorrows away kind of energy. We’ve been playing the song live and the raucous, singalong chorus has become a peak moment during our performances.”
“Bay Area soul music of the ’70s was a thing of beauty,” Michael Urbano (Lindsey Buckingham, John Hiatt) added. “Funk and Latin rhythms, laced with rock, pop and a dose or three of psychedelia were served up with a free and easy beat, great melodies and often a message of hope.” We stuck to that recipe with a bumpin’ disco beat, funky baseline, swingin’ percussion, velvet keys and choppin’ guitars, all set under Greg’s sweet falsetto.”
