Greensky Bluegrass Brings Out Tom Hamilton & Mikaela Davis In Philly

Greensky Bluegrass rolled into The Fillmore Philadelphia on Saturday night and were joined by harpist Mikaela Davis whose band opened the concert. Local guitarist Tom Hamilton (Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, Ghost Light) was also brought out for an extensive second set sit-in.

During the first set, dobro player Anders Beck jokingly told the Philly audience it was Eagles Night ad the setlist would be entirely made up of Eagles songs while mandolinist Paul Hoffman playfully teased “Take It Easy” and “Tequila Sunrise.” The first set ended with Mikaela Davis playing harp on a sublime offering of “Living Over.”

Late in the second set, “The Liberty Bell Of Music, Tom Hamilton” emerged to the Philly anthem “Eye Of The Tiger” made famous in the film Rocky and then proceeded to add electric guitar to the spirited introduction. Hamilton, whose new project MORE! recently debuted at Playing In The Sand, stuck around for the rest of the second set, sitting in on “Past my Prime” and “Run or Die.”
