Greensky Bluegrass featuring Holly Bowling began a three-city, four-show New Year’s Eve run last night at Saginaw’s Temple Theatre in the band’s home state of Michigan. The #6reensky lineup welcomed opener singer-songwriter May Erlewine and her keyboardist Joe Hettinga for guest appearances during Thursday’s second set.
Keyboardist Holly Bowling and the band — mandolinist Paul Hoffman, guitarist Dave Bruzza, dobro player Anders Beck, banjoist Michael Arlen Bont and bassist Mike Devol — kicked off the show and run with GSBG’s first cover of The Allman Brothers Band classic “Ain’t Wastin’ Time No More” since June 30. “Murder Of Crows” came next trailed by Stress Dreams B-Side and 2023 single “Congratulations & Condolences.” #6reensky then linked “Demons” and “Worried About The Weather” before looking to Stress Dreams for “Screams.”

The six-piece’s first set of the run rolled on with the Benny “Burle” Galloway-penned “What’s Left Of The Night,” which bled into “Miss September” off 2016’s Shouted, Written Down & Quoted. A cover of The Stanley Brothers’ “How Mountain Girls Can Love” sealed the frame.
#6reensky offered “Broke Mountain Breakdown” complete with a “Sleeveless In Saginaw” breakdown to get Thursday’s second set underway. It was then back to Stress Dreams for “Grow Together.” Next, May Erlewine emerged to reprise her backing vocals on “Against The Days” featured on the band’s 2008 LP Five Interstates. Erlewine stuck around and Hettinga joined Bowling on keys for the Greensky debut of Mariah Carey’s 2005 hit “Always Be My Baby.” Hettinga also contributed to #6reensky’s take on “King Of The Hill” by Bruce Hornsby.
The six-piece went it alone to end the set with a run of “Like Reflections,” “Fixin To Ruin,” “Before Bring Out Your Dead” and “Bring Out Your Dead.” For the encore, #6reensky treated fans to a rare “Out & Under,” one of the oldest songs in the band’s repertoire.
