Greensky Bluegrass Welcomes Andy Frasco & The UN In Hollywood

Greensky Bluegrass brought out opening act Andy Frasco and The U.N. to collaborate on a Stevie Wonder cover on Saturday night at The Fonda Theatre in Hollywood. Frasco & The U.N. were on their third and final night supporting GSBG to kick off the latter’s Fall Tour 2019 and the two bands finally shared the stage together at the end of Greensky’s first set at The Fonda.

The Michigan-based jamgrass act began their first of two sets with a run of originals “Past My Prime,” “Leap Year,” “While Waiting,” “Cathedral Eyes” and “Blood Sucking F(r)iends.” Greensky then offered a take on Stanley Brothers’ “Little Maggie” before serving up staples “The Four” and “Take Cover.” The set came to a close with L.A.’s own Andy Frasco & The U.N. emerging to fill the stage with GSBG on Stevie Wonder’s 1970 hit “Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours.” Last night was Greensky’s first cover of the Stevie Wonder classic.

GSBG kicked off their second set with a cover of Tyler Childers’ “Universal Sound.” Fan favorites “Living Over” and “I’ll Probably Kill You” came next ahead of a take on Mississippi Fred McDowell’s “Jesus On The Mainline.” Then, “Fixin To Ruin” led into a reprise of “Take Cover” which gave way to “Burn Them.” More covers were in store as Greensky presented The Dillards’ “Reuben’s Train” and then dug in on Traffic’s “Light Up Or Leave Me Alone.” The well-jammed “Light Up” featured a partial version of Grand Funk Railroad’s “We’re An American Band” within and at one point Greensky mashed up “We’re An American Band” with Phish’s “Tweezer Reprise” before concluding the Traffic cover. Finally, the pairing of “Wings For Wheels” and “Kerosene” brought the frame to a close. The quintet dedicated their encore of “Two Tickets To Paradise” to Courtney and fit a number of mentions of Courtney into their take on Eddie Money’s 1978 smash.
