The Grateful Dead released video of “Truckin’” as the latest in their All The Years Live series. The footage is from GD’s debut at the Bay Area’s Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California on October 2, 1987.
The Grateful Dead were orginally scheduled to make their Shoreline debut on July 19, 1986 but had to cancel as guitarist Jerry Garcia slipped into a diabetic coma that nearly took his life a little over a week prior. The band finally premiered at Shoreline on Friday, October 2, 1987, kicking off a three night run. The venue would go on to become the band’s Bay Area home venue, performing at the 22,000-capacity Mountain View amphitheater 48 times between 1987 and 1995, as per JerryBase.

Also breaking in a new space was the Grateful Dead classic, ‘Truckin,’” as Dead archivist David Lemieux pointed out in his notes accompanying the video:
“From the Grateful Dead’s first-ever appearance at Shoreline Amphitheatre, this mighty fine and jamming ‘Truckin’’ is in its newer setlist position, leading into ‘Drums.’ Prior to 1987, it was more commonly found in the post-’Space’ portion of the show, but in 1987 is began shifting more steadily as the lead-in to ‘Drums.’”
