Grateful Dead Selects Previously Unreleased 1987 Show For ‘Shakedown Stream’
Previously unreleased video of the Grateful Dead‘s October 2, 1987 concert at Shoreline will air as this week’s ‘Shakedown Stream.’ The show will be broadcast at 8:45 p.m. ET/5:45 p.m. PT on Friday, June 26 on the JamBase Livestreams Calendar via YouTube after a pre-show featuring special guests Adam MacDougall of Circles Around the Sun and Widespread Panic bassist Dave Schools.
Schools and MacDougall will join Shakedown Stream pre-show co-hosts David Lemieux and Gary Lambert starting at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. Fans can send in questions using this form.
While the Grateful Dead were supposed to be the first act to perform at Shoreline when it opened in 1986, the plans were scrapped due to Jerry Garcia’s health issues. The Dead finally made their Shoreline debut on October 2, 1987 — the concert featured in Friday’s Shakedown Stream. Garcia was joined in the band at the time by guitarist Bob Weir, bassist Phil Lesh, keyboardist Brent Mydland and drummers Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart. The Grateful Dead wound up playing a total of 39 shows at the venue, which become their last Bay Area home, before Jerry’s death in 1995.
