The Grateful Dead shared pro-shot video of “Ship Of Fools” as the latest installment of their All The Years Live series. The clip comes from GD’s July 16, 1990 concert at Rich Stadium in Orchard Park, New York near Buffalo.
According to The Setlist Program, the Grateful Dead debuted the fan favorite ballad “Ship Of Fools” on February 22, 1974, a few months before the album it’s on, From The Mars Hotel, came out. As Dead archivist David Lemieux pointed out in his notes accompanying the video, the song remained a staple from ‘74 onward.

“From Mars Hotel, “Ship Of Fools” was played live more than 200 times, and was a consistent part of the repertoire since its debut in 1974,” he wrote. “This was the second year in a row it was played at Rich Stadium, after the previous year’s performance on 7/4/89.”
