Previously unreleased official video featuring the Grateful Dead‘s performance of “Row Jimmy” from a 1989 run at Shoreline is this week’s installment of the band’s All The Years Live video series. “Row Jimmy” was filmed at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California on September 30, 1989.
September 30, 1989 was the second of three nights the Dead played Shoreline that fall. The venue hosted the band a total of 39 times between October 2, 1987 and June 4, 1995.

“Famously referred to by Jerry Garcia as one of his favourite songs to play live with the Grateful Dead, ‘Row Jimmy’ was a steady part of the repertoire from 1973 to 1995, played 276 times by the Dead,” GD archivist David Lemieux wrote in a note accompanying the video. “Almost exclusively a first set song, this beautiful version comes from the day after the Dead brought back ‘Death Don’t Have No Mercy.'”
