Record Store Day 2021 Releases Include Grateful Dead, St. Vincent, The Police & More
Organizers of the annual Record Store Day will issue exclusive releases via RSD Drops in 2021 on June 12 and July 17. A full list featuring hundreds of exclusive Record Store Day Drops releases from the likes of the Grateful Dead, St. Vincent, The Police, Aretha Franklin, Pearl Jam, U2 and William Tyler available at independent record stores has been unveiled.
“Things are improving but in this continued ‘unprecedented global situation,’ where production and shipping is still in a state of struggle, the focus of these two Drops dates is on bringing revenue to the stores– as well as to the artists, labels, distribution and every other business behind the scenes making record stores work, in a fiscally and socially responsible way,” reads a note from Record Store Day organizers regarding this year’s plan. “The spread of titles over two dates in two months allows some flexibility for the struggling vinyl pressing plants and distribution companies as well as provide stores time to prepare budgets and place the orders that safely get music into the hands of customers on a larger than normal release day.”
The Grateful Dead will issue their May 3, 1972 concert at Paris’ Olympia Theatre on vinyl on June 12. Additionally, a 30th anniversary vinyl reissue of the Jerry Garcia Band’s self-titled 1991 live album arrives on July 17.
St. Vincent’s covers of “Piggy” by Nine Inch Nails and Metallica’s “Sad But True” comes out on 7″ vinyl July 17. The Police unveil vinyl editions of Live! Vol. 1: Boston 1979 and Live! Vol. 2: Atlanta 1983 on June 12, while Aretha Franklin’s Oh Me On My: Live In Philly 1972 will be released on vinyl July 17.
