Grateful Dead shared video of “The Other One” as the latest in their All The Years Live series. The footage is from the band’s December 28, 1983 concert at the San Francisco Civic Center.
December 28, 1983 marked the second of a four-night New Year’s run for the Grateful Dead. What would become “The Other One” originally appeared as “The Faster We Go, the Rounder We Get,” part of the four-part “That’s It For The Other One” suite on the first side of GD’s 1968 semi-live album Anthem Of The Sun.
By 1971, the band only performed “The Faster We Go, the Rounder We Get” which became known as “The Other One” with lyrics written by guitarist Bob Weir, as David Lemieux pointed out in his notes accompanying the recently released video.
“In the repertoire since 1967 and played consistently until 1995, “The Other One” was one of the Bob Weir’s first lyrics written for the Grateful Dead, and featured a line we all live by to one extent or another: ‘the bus came by and I got on, that’s when it all began.'”
