Grateful Dead May 1977 Buffalo Show Among Record Store Day 2020 Releases

Record Store Day 2020 will include the release of the Grateful Dead’s May 9, 1977 concert in Buffalo, New York. The annual celebration of independent record stores will be held on April 18.

The RSD listing for Buffalo 5/9/77 calls the show “the contender for the Cornell crown” in reference to the Grateful Dead’s famed May 8, 1977 concert at Cornell College in Ithica, New York that is considered among the band’s best. The five-LP Record Store Day release (with an etched fifth side) was remastered by Jeffrey Norman from the original analog soundboard recordings made at the Buffalo Memorial Auditorium and was produced by archivist David Lemieux.

Among the Record Store Day 2020 releases is Grateful Dead associate Ned Langin’s Seastones: Set 4 that features members of the Dead, Jefferson Airplane, David Crosby and others and was originally issued on in 1975 on the Dead’s Round Records label. Other RSD 2020 exclusives include releases by Jerry Garica (greatest hits), Miles Davis (Bitches Brew sessions), Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets (“See Emily Play”/”Vegetable Man”), David Bowie (I’m Only Dancing (The Soul Tour 74)/ChangesNowBowie), John Prine (The Atlantic Albums), The Rolling Stones (Let It Bleed limited collectors edition), Warren Zevon (assembled by Judd Apatow), Hiss Golden Messenger (Alive at Spacebomb) and Brittany Howard (Live At Sound Emporium) among others. The late Neal Casal’s solo album Fade Away Diamond Time will also be given a limited regional release.
