Grateful Dead Performs ‘Heaven Help The Fool’ In 1980

The Grateful Dead unveiled footage featuring their performance of “Heaven Help The Fool” from October 30, 1980 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City as this week’s installment of the All The Years Live video series. “Heaven Help The Fool” came during the band’s acoustic set just like it did for other 1980 performances.
“This is the only song from Bob’s 1978 solo record Heaven Help The Fool that made it into the Dead’s setlist, aside from the one-time performance of ‘Salt Lake City’ in 1995,” noted GD archivist David Lemieux in a note accompanying the video. “This was only ever played acoustically, and without vocals, by the Grateful Dead, but they sure did have fun with it.”
In 2005, the band released an expanded edition of their Dead Ahead concert film documenting their run of shows at Radio City on DVD. “Heaven Help The Fool” from October 30, 1980 was included as a bonus track. Watch the video below:
