Gov’t Mule‘s current tour featuring support from The Magpie Salute continued on Tuesday at the Verizon Center Grand Hall in Mankato, Minnesota. The show was originally scheduled for the Vetter Stone Amphitheater but was moved indoors due to inclement weather conditions. Once again, Mule ended the evening by bringing out members of The Magpie Salute for a collaborative encore featuring a pair of covers.

The Magpie Salute opened in usual fashion with “High Water” off the recently released High Water I. Rich Robinson & Co. focused on songs from the LP and also treated Mankato fans to a version of The Black Crowes classic “Thorn In My Pride” and a cover of The Byrds’ “Eight Miles High.”

Gov’t Mule followed with one lengthy set they kicked off with “Mr. Man.” Guitarist Warren Haynes, multi-instrumentalist Danny Louis, bassist Jorgen Carlsson and drummer Matt Abts went on to reel off a series of fan favorites including “Blind Man In The Dark,” “Mr. High & Mighty,” “Mother Earth” and “Lola, Leave Your Light On.” The heavy lean on staples continued with “Unring The Bell,” “Endless Parade” and a take on “Monkey Hill” featuring a bit of the Beatles’ “She’s So Heavy.”

The quartet trotted out “Thorns Of Life” and “Revolution Come, Revolution Go” from their most recent album towards the end of their set. Gov’t Mule then brought out The Magpie Salute keyboardist Matt Slocum for the Revolution Come … Revolution Go outtake “Girl With No Self-Esteem” and a cover of Jeff Beck’s “Freeway Jam.”

Haynes & Co. went guest-less for the “Mule” that brought the set to a close. Warren told the crowd how much fun he’s been having on tour with The Magpie Salute at the start of an encore. He then welcomed Robinson, Slocum, singer John Hogg and guitarist Marc Ford for covers of Blind Faith’s “Presence Of The Lord” and the Yardbirds’ “Shapes Of Things.” The latter was a debut for Mule while the former was last played during the group’s Island Exodus destination event in 2017.
