Gov’t Mule Welcomes Guests At Wanee And In Greenville

Blues-rockers Gov’t Mule kicked off Spring Tour 2017 with a Saturday afternoon performance at the Wanee Festival in Live Oak, Florida and continued the run at the Peace Center in Greenville, South Carolina on Sunday night. Mule was joined by special guests during both concerts.

On Saturday at Wanee the quartet opened with “World Boss” > “Mother Earth,” a fitting pairing for Earth Day. Later in the set Warren Haynes & Co. worked “Eternity’s Breath” into a jam based on the Grateful Dead’s “St. Stephen.” The lengthy Gov’t Mule performance at Wanee also featured the debut performance of “Revolution Come, Revolution Go” off the band’s forthcoming studio album. Mule then brought out former Allman Brothers Band guitarist Jack Pearson for “Freeway Jam.” The set concluded with a cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Effigy” that contained excursions into “Hey Joe” and “Folsom Prison Blues.”

Gov’t Mule played two sets in Greenville on Sunday. The band’s first set included a “Game Face” with teases of “Birdland,” “Mountain Jam” and “Norweigan Wood.” A few songs later, Mule welcomed guitarist Eric Krasno and trumpeter Craig Sorrells to the stage for “Sco-Mule.” Sorrells stuck around for “I Believe To My Soul” ahead of the “Funny Little Tragedy” set closer. Last night’s second set saw Mule focus on originals for the most part though they did guitarist Mike Barnes and Sorrells for a cover of “Feel Like Breaking Up Somebody’s Home.” Barnes also contributed to the evening’s encore, a cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Simple Man.”
