Guitarist Warren Haynes has put his focus back on Gov’t Mule as the band begins its first tour of the year. Following an appearance at the Wanee Festival over the weekend, Gov’t Mule played the first headlining show of the spring last night at the Music Farm in Columbia, South Carolina where the group was joined by a handful of special guests.

The evening’s initial guest came out towards the middle of the first set, when trumpeter Craig Sorrells emerged to add to a cover of Ray Charles’ “I Believe To My Soul.” Sorrells as well as young guitarist Marcus King came out at the end of the first set for a cover of Billy Cobham’s “Stratus.” Craig Sorrells also helped out on Bill Withers’ “Hope She’ll Be Happier” during the second set. Gov’t Mule ended the night with an encore of Tom Waits’ “Goin’ Out West” featuring Craig Sorrells, Marcus King and guitarist Jack Mascari. Next up for the band is a show in Savannah, Georgia tonight.
