This spring’s Gov’t Mule tour is nearing the end as last night the quartet played the penultimate headlining show of the run at the Saenger Theatre in Mobile, Alabama. Warren Haynes & Co. were joined by Black Stone Cherry frontman Chris Robertson and Mobile-based guitarist Ben Jernigan for the evening’s rousing finale.

Gov’t Mule kicked off their marathon set in Mobile with the classic “Blind Man In The Dark.” The group then continued on with “Lola, Leave Your Light On” and “About To Rage” off 2004’s Deja Voodoo. Next up was a cover of Steppenwolf’s “Don’t Step On The Grass, Sam;” which was followed by a run of “Larger Than Life,” “Fool’s Moon” and “The Man I Want To Be.” The tour’s second rendition of Bob Marley’s “Lively Up Yourself” then gave way to “Dreams & Songs” and “Stone Cold Rage” off the recently released Revolution Come…Revolution Go.

The four-piece’s set rolled on with the familiar “Broke Down On The Brazos” > “Tributary Jam” pairing ahead of “Steppin’ Lightly” off 2009’s By A Thread. Haynes and his troupe then delivered the bluesy “Captured” and jazz-tinged “Sco-Mule” before treating the crowd to the title track off Revolution Come…Revolution Go. After closing the main set with “Thorazine Shuffle,” the band returned to begin the encore with “I’ll Be The One.” Gov’t Mule fit a jam on the Allman Brothers Band’s “Blue Sky” within “I’ll Be The One.”

Black Stone Cherry opened most shows on the tour and the band’s frontman, Chris Robertson, emerged along with Ben Jernigan to help the quartet end the night with “Statesboro Blues.” Gov’t Mule now heads to New Orleans and then ends the tour with an appearance at the Beale Street Music Festival in Memphis on Saturday.
