This September, jam scene favorites Gov’t Mule will pair up with classic rockers ZZ Top for a series of eight dates. Mule has been influenced by ZZ Top dating back to the band’s start in 1994 and even recorded ZZ Top’s “Just Got Paid” during their first recording sessions which will soon be officially released as The Tel-Star Sessions.
ZZ Top’s time on the road with Gov’t Mule is currently scheduled to begin at Jones Beach in Wantagh, New York on September 9. Then the two acts pair up for shows in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on September 11, Baltimore on September 13, Cary, North Carolina on September 14, Fredericksburg, Virginia on September 15, Rosemont, Illinois on September 17, Maryland Heights, Missouri on September 18 and Kansas City on September 20.
“ZZ Top and the Mule are cut from the same dyed-in-the blues cloth,” said ZZ Top frontman Billy Gibbons who guested on Gov’t Mule’s By A Thread album “I’ve long admired the band and Warren Haynes’ guitar work. He has a certain grit to everything he does. We’re gonna have a fine time.”
Both bands have plenty of other dates scheduled over the next few months as Gov’t Mule spends time on tour with Blackberry Smoke and ZZ Top teams with Gregg Allman for an extensive series of dates. Pre-sale tickets for the run will be available Wednesday, May 18 at 12 p.m. ET ahead of the public on-sale Friday, May 20 at 10 a.m. local times with the exception of the Rosemont show. The pre-sale for Rosemont takes place Wednesday, June 1 ahead of the public on-sale Friday, June 3.
