Gov’t Mule Performs With Many Guests In New Orleans

Gov’t Mule delivered another guest-filled two set show at the Orpheum Theater in New Orleans on Saturday night. The band was joined at various points by Robert Randolph, Eric McFadden, Alvin Youngblood Hart, Scott Sharrard, Smoky Greenwell and The Levee Horns.

The night began with guitarist Warren Haynes leading his band mates through “Bad Little Doggie.” After offering several favorites, Mule brought out The Levee Horns for a cover of The Band’s “The Shape I’m In.” The guests stuck around for the rest of the set, which was made up of Etta James’ “I’d Rather Go Blind” and Al Green’s “Take Me To The River.”

The second set started with “Stoop So Low” and Bob Marley’s “Lively Up Yourself,” followed by the horns returning for James Brown’s “It’s A Man’s Man’s Man’s World” and Little Feat’s “Spanish Moon,” the latter of which also featured Alvin Youngblood Hart on guitar. The next guest was Scott Sharrard adding guitar to The Allman Brothers Band’s “Come & Go Blues” and Elmore James’ “Done Somebody Wrong,” which also featured Smoky Greenwell on harmonica. Greenwell remained for the set-closing take on Robert Johnson’s “32/20 Blues” that included Robert Randolph on lap steel.

Guitarist Eric McFadden came out with Mule for the encore performance of Neil Young’s “Cortez The Killer.” View video clips from the Orpheum posted by gingerannesjambands:
