Gov’t Mule stopped by Tannahill’s Tavern & Music Hall in Fort Worth, Texas on Wednesday. The band welcomed longtime collaborator Hook Herrera during both sets and the encore.
Gov’t Mule — guitarist Warren Haynes, drummer Matt Abts, bassist Jorgen Carlsson and multi-instrumentalist Danny Louis — got things underway with “Railroad Boy.” The first set also included “Game Face,” “Little Toy Brain,” “Mr. Big,” “Time To Confess” and “Million Miles From Yesterday.”
Warren and company then welcomed harmonica player Hook Herrera. Hook is a longtime collaborator of Gov’t Mule and has also sat in with The Allman Brothers Band. Hook’s first appearance on Wednesday began with “Help Me.” Hook stayed on to add harp to set closer, “30/20 Blues.”
“Thorns Of Life” kicked off the second set. The classic “Beautifully Broken” came next ahead of “Monkey Hill.” Hook then emerged for “Blues Before Sunrise” and the Ann Peebles-recorded “Feel Like Breaking Up Somebody’s Home,” the latter appearing on Mule’s 2021 blues album, Heavy Load Blues. Mule then went it alone for “Blind Man In The Dark” and a second set-closing sequence of “Mr. Man,” “Mule” and “Mr. Man.”
Gov’t Mule returned with Herrera in tow for the encore. The collaborators delivered a cover of the stellar John Lennon solo classic, “Working Class Hero,” a song the harmonica player has sat in with Mule on before. Scroll through the IG post below for a clip of the Mule/Herrera hook up:
