Gorillaz Debut New Songs At First Performance Since 2010

Last night at Printworks in London, Gorillaz returned to the stage for their first concert since 2010. Frontman Damon Albarn welcomed many guests as he led an 11-piece ensemble through a complete performance of the group’s just-announced forthcoming new album Humanz.

Video of rapper Vince Staples was shown in conjunction with the show and album opening “Ascension,” which was followed by vocalist Peven Everett joining on “Strobelite.” The next guests brought to the stage were De La Soul who contributed to “Momentz,” with Danny Brown and Kelela then emerging to perform “Submission.” Kelela was also on hand for “Busted and Blue,” while Anthony Hamilton was a guest on “Carnival.”

Pusha T took the stage for “Let Me Out,” which featured video of Mavis Staples providing additional vocals and was so well-received it was played twice. Also guesting last night were Jamie Principle and Zebra Katz (“Sex Murder Party”), Kali Uchis (“She’s My Collar”), Benjamin Clementine (“Hallelujah Money”) and Noel Gallagher, Jehnny Beth and Jean Michel Jarre (“We Got The Power,” also played twice).

The encore began with the Demon Days classic “Kids With Guns,” with De La Soul reemerging for the subsequent “Feel Good Inc.” Del The Funky Homosapien (along with Gallagher) then came on for “Clint Eastwood” from the band’s self-titled LP. The second encore saw performances of “Don’t Get Lost In Heaven” and the Demon Days title track.
