Goose brought their winter tour to San Diego on Thursday for their first headlining show in California. The group debuted “Pancakes,” an original previously played by multi-instrumentalist Peter Anspach‘s Great Blue project, to begin last night’s second set.

“The Whales” opened the first set in San Diego. “Eartlings or Aliens?” then gave way to a cover of Sergio Mendes’ “Maìs Que Nada.” Goose went with “Turned Clouds” next before working “Time To Flee” into “Bob Don.” A version of “Madhuvan” featuring what crew member Jon “Coach” Lombardi described as an “epic super ted jam” put an exclamation on the frame.

Spanning 20 minutes, the first “Pancakes” Goose cooked up was one to remember. The set opener was followed by the groovy “All I Need” before guitarist Rick Mitarotonda led the group through “Me & My Uncle.” Goose then paired “Rosewood Heart” and “Moby.” Last night’s second set drew to a close with “Drive.” The five-piece returned for a “Jive II” > “Jive Lee” encore.

Goose are off to Los Angeles tonight. A livestream is available via GooseStreams.com. Listen to an audience recording of last night’s show taped by Joe Logrippo below:
