Goose celebrated the Fourth of July Weekend with a pair of concerts at SPAC in Saratoga Springs, New York to wrap the first leg of their summer tour. The Disco Biscuits warmed up on Friday, while moe. kicked off the festivities on Saturday.
tDB launched their set on Friday with “Twisted In The Road” before sandwiching “Tricycle” within “Story Of The World.” A seamless sequence of “Risky Business,” “I-Man” and “Sabre Dance” capped the Bisco set. The band last performed their take on “Sabre Dance” (Aram Khachaturian) on April 12, 2024 for a gap of 163 shows.
Goose initiated night one at SPAC with “Echo Of A Rose,” which they presented in its quickened form. The jam quartet went heavy on songs from their new album Big Modern during their first performance including “Pop,” “Media,” “Good2B,” “Good Times // End Times” and “(((postplace)))” along with a cover of David Byrne and Brian Eno‘s “Strange Overtones.”
Guitarist Rick Mitarotonda, keyboardist/guitarist Peter Anspach, bassist Trevor Weekz and drummer Cotter Ellis concluded the show with “So Ready.” The night one finale saw tDB bassist Marc Brownstein joining. Weekz moved over to turntables to perform the song under his DJ Marb Menthols moniker.
moe. got things underway on the Fourth of July with an uninterrupted sequence of “Yellow Tigers,” “Captain America” and “Bat Country.” The penultimate song of the set saw Mitarotonda and Anspach sitting in with the band on “Happy Hour Hero.” moe. went it alone to wrap their performance with the classic “Rebubula.”
Night two for Goose began with “Same Old Shenanigans.” The first set included parts one and two of “Seekers On The Ridge” before concluding with “Animal.” The four-song second set included two originals — “Dripfield” and “Tumble” — and two covers: “Amongster” (Poliça) and “Don’t Leave Me This Way” (Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes).
The finale on the fourth saw moe. guitarist Al Schnier joining Goose for an apt cover of the Grateful Dead's “U.S. Blues.” Mitarotonda and Schnier traded solos on the rocker.
