God Street Wine Debuts Phish’s ‘The Wedge’ At Dead Of Summer Music Festival

A Vermont festival provided the perfect backdrop for God Street Wine's debut performance of Phish's classic song “The Wedge.” The stretched-out rendition, GSW’s first-ever Phish cover, came on Friday at the 2026 Dead Of Summer Music Festival at Hunter Park in Manchester, Vermont.

Both bands were formed in the 1980s and rose to prominence in the 1990s jam scene through relentless touring. GSW guitarist Lo Faber and drummer Tom “Tomo” Osander each grew up in Princeton, New Jersey, which is also the hometown of Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio.

“The Wedge” was debuted live by Phish in 1992 and released on Rift one year later, around the same time both bands were rapidly building their fanbases. The debut was played in Vermont, Phish’s home state, adding an extra layer of significance.

God Street Wine’s set at Dead Of Summer was the second show of a four-show Northeast swing for the band. Faber, Osander and bandmates guitarist Aaron Maxwell, bassist Dan Pifer and keyboardist Jon Bevo opened the 16-song festival performance with “Epilog” and led into “The Wedge” with live staples “Chop,” “Princess Henrietta,” “Hellfire” and “Nightingale.”

Aaron Maxwell and Lo Faber handled joint lead vocals on “The Wedge.” Maxwell took a fiery guitar solo, laying the groundwork for an expansive jam that strayed far from the song’s structure. Both guitarists connected on an anthemic riff before GSW closed out the cover.

After “The Wedge,” GSW continued a focus on fan-favorites with “Hammer And A Spike,” “Mile By Mile,” “Driving West,” “Goodnight Gretchen” and “Into The Sea” among the songs played. The band also tipped its hat to Bob Weir with a cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Cassidy” and rolled out a take on Pink Floyd’s “Wot’s… Uh The Deal” before the “Brick House” closer. Tomo played guitar and sang the Obscured By Clouds standout, while Lo Faber stepped behind the drum kit on the Floyd cover.

God Street Wine concluded their first run of 2026 on Sunday in Asbury Park, New Jersey. The band played “The Wedge” again, leading to the posibility the Phish cover could be in the setlist rotation for good.
