Gimme Shelter In Place: Con Brio Performs ‘Kiss The Sun’
Gimme Shelter In Place is JamBase’s archival video series launched for fans who right now can’t go see live music. Canceled concerts and music festivals due to social distancing and sheltering in place in response to the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic brought a halt to tours around the globe. We know nothing can truly replace seeing live music in person, but we hope the Gimme Shelter In Place live videos provide a taste of those memorable experiences.
In 2015, JamBase unveiled the Songs Of Their Own video series celebrating the Grateful Dead’s 50th anniversary. Another San Francisco-based band, Con Brio was among the many participants who recorded covers of Dead classics.
JamBase previously published Con Brio’s arrangement of the Grateful Dead’s “When Push Comes To Shove.” The band featuring vocalist Ziek McCarter, the band rounded out by guitarist Benjamin Andrews, keyboardist Micah Dubreuil, bassist Jonathan Kirchner, tenor saxophonist Marcus Stephens, trumpeter Brendan Liu and drummer Andrew Laubacher recorded their video at JamBase’s former location in San Francisco.
While hanging at JBHQ, Con Brio played a few extra songs for the assembled staff. Our cameras were rolling while McCarter led the group through their original “Kiss The Sun.” The song served as the title track for Con Brio’s EP that came out a few months prior to the session.
