Last night the Palace Theatre in Albany, New York hosted the all-star The Last Waltz 40 Tour featuring Warren Haynes, Michael McDonald, John Medeski, Jamey Johnson, Don Was and Terence Higgins and guests interpreting songs from The Band’s legendary 1976 finale. Thursday’s show featured the first of two performances by The Band’s renowned multi-instrumentalist Garth Hudson.

Hudson performed with the original lineup of The Band at the original Last Waltz held on Thanksgiving Day at Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco on November 25, 1976. Toward the end of the second set Hudson emerged to lend keys to “The Weight” and “I Shall Be Released.” The evening also featured guest appearances by Ivan Neville and Cyril Neville. For the start of the encore, Garth was given the spotlight as he fired up his “Genetic Method” solo before ripping into his signature organ work on “Chest Fever.” A show closing performance of “Don’t Do It” wrapped up the evening in Albany.

Hudson will also appear at The Last Waltz 40 Tour show on Saturday at the MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland. Much of last night’s show in Albany was captured by Sean Roche, view his videos (plus one additional clip from another source) below:
