On June 26, 1994 the legendary Johnny Cash laid down a riveting performance at England’s Glastonbury Festival that event regulars still discuss among the best sets in the festival’s history. The Man In Black mixed such beloved classics as “Folsom Prison Blues,” “Big River” and “A Boy Named Sue” with a wide range of covers including “Orange Blossom Special” and “The Man Who Couldn’t Cry.” Cash, backed by a band that featured his wife and son, seemed blown away by the reaction to his music and later called it one of the great highlights of his musical career.

Glastonbury organizer Michael Eavis raved about Johnny’s performance to the NME, “I booked Johnny Cash to play at Glastonbury in 1994. He was spellbinding, bloody brilliant. That was one of my best bookings of all time. This was when Johnny wasn’t nearly as fashionable as he was after ‘Hurt.’ Some of the youngsters thought I’d gone crazy, as they believed I should be booking new stuff all the time. They thought he was just a daft old country singer. But he was so good. I can’t choose one song as my favourite, I’d have a shortlist of 100.”
