moe. has been pulling out all the stops for a sold-out, four-night stand at The Sinclair in Cambridge and they had an extra special treat on Friday. The band’s third of four shows at the intimate venue was a marathon affair that featured a surprise third set.
Guitarist Al Schnier broke the news to fans around 11:30 after the band had concluded their second set that they would be returning for a third. moe.’s first set on Friday included a rare cover of Frank Zappa’s “San Ber’dino” and a 25+ minute “Recreational Chemistry.” Last night’s second set was a seamless affair that combined material from throughout moe.’s career.
The five-piece opened the surprise third set with a “Not Coming Down” > “Fearless” > “Wormwood” > “Okayalright” sequence and moe. threw in “Brittle End” and “32 Things” for good measure. For the encore, the quintet said farewell with a cover of David Bowie’s “Ziggy Stardust” and their own “Downward Facing Dog.” moe. returns to The Sinclair to end the run on Saturday night.
