Full Show Audio: moe. Goes Acoustic In Aspen

While moe. headlines Red Rocks tonight in Morrison, Colorado, the band had a more intimate affair on tap last night. moe. went unplugged for an acoustic performance at the Belly Up Aspen on Wednesday night. The five-piece fit a few rarities into the setlist and had fun with a Bob Seger classic as part of the encore.
moe. opened with a version of “Time Again” featuring Al Schnier on mandolin. The band then strung together “Not Coming Down,” “Wormwood” and “Okayalright.” Next, Schnier led the group on their first cover of Pink Floyd’s “Fearless” since April 29, 2017. The show rolled on with Rob Derhak’s recently revived “Tambourine” and a Jim Loughlin-led rendition of “Isis” by Bob Dylan. moe. capped the frame with Schnier’s “What Can I Say,” a song the band debuted at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York on February 2, along with a pairing of “Happy Hour Hero” and “Waiting For The Punchline.”

Last night’s second set began with moe.’s version of “Hey Hey What Can I Do” by Led Zeppelin, a cover they first performed at a benefit concert held at New York City’s Carnegie Hall in March. Guitarist Chuck Garvey then led the group on “Shoot First,” which the band slickly segued into “Montego.” Another impressive transition gave way to one of the evening’s improvisational highlights, “Yodelittle.” The monster, 18-minute version featured lots of full band jamming.
Next came the instrumental “McBain,” which worked surprisingly well in the acoustic format. moe. went on to end the second set with a lengthy “Down Boy” > “Moth” sequence. Al Schnier began the encore in typical style with his “Al.nouncements” of special occasions. Schnier and Garvey then started toying with Bob Seger’s “Night Moves.” Rob Derhak did his best to singalong but was thrown off when the crowd began singing the chorus too early. The aborted “Night Moves” was followed by the return of “Blue Eyed Son,” which had been on the shelf since January 19, 2017. moe. brought the encore and evening to a close with “All Roads Lead To Home.”
Tonight, moe. headlines Red Rocks with support from Pigeons Playing Ping Pong. Tickets are on sale here with a webcast available via nugs.tv.
