By Andy Kahn Apr 15, 2017 • 8:17 am PDT
On Thursday night, The Intersection in Grand Rapids, Michigan welcomed Twiddle and Midnight North. The two bands currently touring together took the opportunity to collaborate that evening with each group welcoming a member from the other band to sit-in.
Midnight North’s set mixed originals such as “Roamin’,” “Phoenix Motel” and “Under The Lights,” with a pair of staples of the Grateful Dead’s repertoire, “Viola Lee Blues” and “I Know You Rider.” Twiddle guitarist Mihali Savoulidis emerged at the end of the set to sit-in with Midnight North on “Miss M” and “Greene County.”
Mihali returned with Twiddle for a two set performance that began with “Amydst The Myst.” The first set progressed with offerings of “Dr. Remidi’s Melodium,” “Classical Gas,” and “Brown Chicken Brown Cow.” At that point Midnight North guitarist Grahame Lesh came back out to assist on a set closing cover of the Dead’s “Eyes Of The World.”
Twiddle’s second set was anchored around a lengthy “Doinkinbonk!!!” played alongside renditions of “Orlando’s,” “Bronze Fingers,” “Orderly Chaos” and “The FRENDS Theme.” The encore featured Twiddle’s arrangement of Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues.” Audience recordings shared by Relax and Stream of Twiddle and Midnight North’s April 13 performances from Grand Rapids are available below:
