Full Show Audio: Dark Star Orchestra With Jeff Chimenti On Keys & Rob Barraco On Bass In New Haven
By Scott Bernstein Nov 19, 2016 • 2:28 pm PST
As reported Grateful Dead tribute act Dark Star Orchestra was without their regular bassist Skip Vangelas last night in New Haven and will be so again tonight in Albany. DSO proceeded with the shows by recruiting Jeff Chimenti of Dead & Company to play keys, while the band’s keyboardist Rob Barraco slides over to bass.
Friday night’s show at the College Street Music Hall in New Haven was the first of the year to feature Chimenti on keys and Barraco on bass. Dark Star Orchestra went with an elective setlist instead of re-creating a previous Grateful Dead show. The band focused on songs from the ’70s such as “Brown-Eyed Women,” “Tennessee Jed,” “Passenger,” “Lazy Lightning,” “Crazy Fingers,” “Shakedown Street,” “The Wheel” and “Mission In The Rain.” They also drew from the ’80s for “Hell In A Bucket” and the ’90s for “Lazy River Road.” Non-Dead tunes performed included covers of “When I Paint My Masterpiece” and “Little Red Rooster.” Full show audio of Friday’s concert has surfaced and can be heard below.
