New Jersey jamgrass act Railroad Earth recently announced multi-instrumentalist Andy Goessling would be undergoing medical treatment that might neccessitate him missing some shows. One of those concerts took place on Saturday night as RRE played the Bluegrass In The Bottoms festival, where keyboardist Matt Slocum filled in for Andy. Audio of Saturday’s set has surfaced.

Slocum was the keyboardist in the last touring lineup of Col. Bruce Hampton & The Aquarium Rescue Unit. Matt was also recently revealed to be part of Jimmy Herring’s new band, The Invisible Whip. Railroad Earth’s 11-song set at Heim Park outside Knuckleheads Saloon in Kansas City was heavy on old favorites including “Elko,” “Bird In A House” and “Head.” The band also treated fans to one of their newest songs, “Blazin’ A Trail.” Up next for RRE is a weekend full of festival appearances including sets at Dark Star Jubilee, DelFest and Summer Camp.
