Free Download: Marco Benevento Releases Jazz Fest Late Night

Keyboardist Marco Benevento brought his band to the famed Tipitina’s in New Orleans for a late night show during Jazz Fest on May 4. Benevento has shared an official recording of the performance as a free download via Royal Potato Family’s website. Marco mixed the multi-track release himself.

Marco’s trio finds him joined by bassist Karina Rykman and drummer Andy Borger. The three-piece began the set with “The Story Of Fred Short” suite featured on his 2016 studio album of the same name. Benevento & Co. then dug into “Greenpoint” off 2010’s Between The Needles & Nightfall and “Heartbeats” from 2009’s Me Not Me. Karina got a turn in the spotlight on a cover of “Pepper” by Butthole Surfers before the keyboardist handled vocals on “Dropkick.”

The New Jersey native and his troupe continued the career-spanning performance with “Coyote Hearing” from Marco’s Swift LP and the classic “RISD.” Later in the set, the trio honored Tom Petty with a cover of “You Don’t Know How It Feels” and ended the night with staples “Bus Ride” and “At The Show.”

Benevento heads out for three shows this weekend. He starts the run at Outer Ballroom in Hamden, Connecticut on Thursday and then plays 3S ArtSpace in Portsmouth, New Hampshire on Friday. Marco, Andy and Karina conclude the run at the North Beach Bandshell in Miami Beach on Saturday.
