TIME TO FREAK AMONGST THE CITY STREETS

Seth Olinsky – Akron/Family by J. Miller
What can we say, we at JamBase are smitten with the holy modal punk warriors Akron/Family and New York City residents have a chance to fall in love this month, too. On July 24, Akron/Family will bring their ecstatic chanting, wild improvisation, hushed laptop folk and explosive live show to Castle Clinton in Battery Park in NYC. Details are as follows:

Thursday, July 24, 2008
Castle Clinton (Battery Park) New York City
Tickets: FREE (two ticket limit per person, first-come/first-serve, tickets avail as of 5 pm day of show)
Show Info: 212.835.2789, www.rivertorivernyc.com
Showtime: 7 pm

Akron/Family’s upcoming Castle Clinton appearance serves as a bit of a homecoming as much of their existing recorded material derives from when they were living together in a small Brooklyn apartment starting back in 2002. That initial period in NYC, with their hermetic writing style, proved boundless as many sleepless nights turned into brilliant soundscapes, lush vocal harmonies, philosophical lyrics, and roughhewn folks songs; all of which put this indie-rock, experimental bar band on the map. Akron/Family’s noted success is homegrown. Similar to how the Grateful Dead grew in popularity through their live shows, Akron/Family follows in this tradition with a particular interest in composing and releasing standout albums.

In addition to performing songs from their latest release, Love is Simple and their previous records, Akron/Family will exclusively debut at Castle Clinton several new compositions from their much-anticipated forthcoming full-length recording effort. Don’t miss Akron/Family’s only summer show in NYC!!!
